Let them fly!
Earlier this year, our teachers flew to Ottawa to accept their award from Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The children were very interested in many parts about the trip but showed a huge interest in airplanes. Our teachers helped the children explore the topic in so many ways! They researched the different parts of a plane, they observed different types of planes, they participated in a field trip at the Museum of Flight in Langley and then they created their own Museum of Planes, including their very own plane in the classroom!
During one of our General Meetings, our parents were tasked with building a plane, given materials, tools and some basic information on what it should look like. After lots of teamwork and collaboration on the parent front, the prototype was ready to present to the children. The next day, the kids were so proud (and very impressed) with what their parents had done! The next few months, each class took on other components to make their plane complete. It now has seats, a cockpit, wheels, food cart, etc). Our plane has provided many successful and fun trips around the world, mainly back and forth to Ottawa!
